These family sheets are very much "Under Construction". As I gather and collate more information I will add to the material. The Meason family of which I am a part appears to have its origins in Fairford, Gloucestershire. In the early 19th century the MASON family were a group of agricultural labourers and from the middle of the century began to called themselves MEASON. George Meason's marriage to Maria Shurmer in 1860 is the earliest official document located to date in which MEASON was used. Maria Shurmer was one of a large family of Shurmers from Notgrove, Gloucestershire. There are many descendants of the Shurmers alive today and I thank those that have made contact and provided information. Maria's mother was Priscilla Ivin, a daughter of one of a large community of Ivin families from Quenington, Gloucestershire. Later in the 19th Century the family split in various directions. One family, from whom I am descended, settled in Catford, in the borough of Lewisham, London. Another family settled in Hexham, Northumberland, while a third settled elsewhere in London. The details of the third group are very sketchy at the moment and are not yet included. I am particularly indebted to Kevin Leech for information about the Shurmer and Ivin Families (although their details have yet to be added to my site!)
